Methodology

Every row comes from a public web page that we fetched on 21 Oct 2026. Nothing is estimated or invented. If a price could not be read from the page, the row was left out.

How many UK MSPs publish prices

On 21 Oct 2026 two random samples of UK IT firms were drawn from public lists, both under the Open Government Licence:

179 firms were excluded because no website could be verified, the firm was not an MSP, its identity could not be confirmed, or its site was unreachable. That left 141 MSPs with live websites. On each site the home page, pricing, plans and services pages and the sitemap were checked by crawler, and every flagged price was reviewed by hand. Only a firm's own prices count: market cost guides, software licence prices and illustrative examples do not.

Both samples14113.5% (8.8–20.1%)6.4% (3.4–11.7%)

"Any own price" includes fixed prices, "from" prices, hourly rates and add-on prices. "Full rate card" means at least one fixed price for the firm's own managed IT, security or support service. Ranges are Wilson 95% confidence intervals.

Limitations

  1. The two samples cover different kinds of firm, and the combined figure is not weighted to the UK market. Small firms publish prices more often than public-sector suppliers, so the true UK share probably sits between the two samples.
  2. Many sampled firms had no verifiable website and were excluded. If they differ in how often they publish prices, the result is biased in an unknown direction.
  3. Prices in PDFs, images, gated calculators or deep pages can be missed, so the figures are a floor.
  4. Whether a firm is an MSP is a judgement made from its website or listing.
  5. Websites change. These are single-day observations.

How medians are calculated

Each row is one published price. Where a page gives a range, the midpoint is used. "From" prices are recorded as stated, so medians lean low. Every tier on a rate card is its own row, so a provider with three tiers contributes three values. UK medians combine MSP rate cards and UK G-Cloud listings; medians for other regions use MSP rate cards only. Aggregate guides are reported separately and never enter rate-card medians. "Per user" includes "per seat" (one user plus one device). Per-device and per-computer tiers are kept separate. Prices published per year keep their stated unit and are not included in per-month medians.

Directory figures use the midpoint of each row's range. Currency conversion uses ECB reference rates dated 20 Oct 2026 (fx.json). UK region means where the provider is based. A UK region median appears only when there are 5 or more per-user rate-card tiers.

Sponsorship rule

Sponsorship never changes data, ranking or medians. Any sponsored placement will be labelled "Sponsored". There are no sponsors today.

Update cadence

Planned: sources are re-checked monthly and changed prices are reviewed by hand. MSPs can request a fix on the corrections page or by email via the contact page.

Limitations and exclusions

Limitations

  1. Published-price bias. The data covers providers that publish prices. These are often smaller firms that compete on transparency; many larger providers do not publish prices.
  2. Small samples. Regional and country medians can rest on a small number of tiers. A UK region median is shown only when there are 5 or more per-user rate-card tiers.
  3. Region means provider location. A provider's UK region is where it is based, not where its customers are. Providers that publish one UK-wide price are listed once and tagged as national.
  4. Tier weighting. Every tier is a row, so providers with several tiers weigh more than single-price providers.
  5. Mixed units. Prices are published per user, per seat, per device, per year or as flat fees. The directory keeps each provider's stated unit; filter by pricing model for a like-for-like comparison.
  6. What is included varies. Some tiers include software licences (for example Microsoft 365) in the price, which makes them look higher than admin-only plans. The "Tier / included" column shows what each price covers.
  7. Third-party reported prices. A small number of prices come from a third-party listing rather than the provider's own page. These are marked "via …" in the provider name.
  8. G-Cloud listings are UK public-sector framework list prices, often priced at scale. They can pull some UK figures down (for example Microsoft 365 per-user management), and the directory labels the source type of every row.
  9. VAT. 172 of 572 rows state that prices are net / ex VAT. The rest do not state a VAT basis, and none is assumed. B2B prices are normally quoted net.
  10. Currency. Non-GBP prices are converted at ECB reference rates dated 20 Oct 2026; the original currency is kept alongside.
  11. Dates. Prices were collected on 21 Oct 2026 and may have changed since. A few sources carry an earlier publication date, shown in the directory.
  12. Coverage gaps. Some stacks and countries have few or no published prices. Cloud and Microsoft 365 management pricing is thin or absent in several EU countries, cyber pricing is thin outside Germany and the Netherlands, and Italy, Portugal, Finland and Norway are not yet covered.
  13. EU units. EU pages price per workplace (seat or device) or per user. Each row keeps its stated unit; EU medians pool both as "per seat".
  14. Inconsistent source pages. Where a page shows different figures in different places, the row is kept as a range or the lower figure is recorded, and the row is flagged.
  15. Small medians. Medians based on fewer than 5 values are indicative only.

Exclusions

Prices are left out when the page shows no price, when the figure is ambiguous (for example conflicting figures on the same page, or a missing currency), when the page describes a typical range or an estimate rather than a price list, when the provider is already listed from another page, or when the page could not be fetched. Hosting-only listings (infrastructure without management) and units that cannot be defined are also excluded.
